The road operator Sabana Occidente SA hired Pedelta for engineering and design work for "El Cune" Tunnel in the municipality of Villeta, on the road which connects Bogota with Medellin and the Atlantic Coast.

In recognition of his contributions to innovative design and rehabilitation of bridges in Spain, contributing to the introduction of new materials in structural engineering, and the promotion of the use of reliability techniques in the evaluation of bridges in Spain and Latin America. He is the second Spanish engineer to receive this award after Santiago Calatrava (1988).
