Demolition Engineering for Old Walterdale Bridge, Edmonton AB

Retained by Acciona and Pacer Joint Venture, Pedelta provided engineering services for the demolition of the 100 year-old superstructure. Built in 1913, the Old Walterdale Bridge (also known as 105th Street Bridge) is a truss bridge consisting of three 70 m-long spans, and it is being replaced by a new arch bridge built immediately adjacent to it. Pedelta collaborated with the client and crane supplier to produce the demolition plan. The three spans will be shipped away and be dismantled at another site. The strength and stability of the structural components during lifting operations and dismantling stages are checked using 3D models and other specifically prepared tools. In addition, Pedelta designed temporary towers and lifting devices for the proposed demolition procedure.
